ISA integrates qualitative features and quantitative parameters in conceptualising people's identity structures and processes of identity development over time. The methodology using the Ipseus software enables rigorous research that mitigates researcher-influenced biases. Analyses of data are based on each participant's own value system, not on externally imposed judgments. The approach is strongly attuned to the diversity of cultural values and beliefs that characterise multi-cultural communities. Definitions of concepts are explicit and, by way of their algorithmic translation, procedures represented in Ipseus are fully transparent.
